10 Yoga Techniques to Beat the Heat of Summer

July 1, 2023 by Andrea Schwartz

10 Yoga Techniques to Beat the Heat of Summer – The summer season is when temperatures soar, and people tend to feel sluggish and tired due to the excessive heat. It is crucial to keep the body cool and hydrated during this time, and one of the best ways to do so is through yoga. Yoga is a holistic practice that helps improve overall health and well-being and also helps beat the heat of summer.

Here are ten techniques to beat the heat of summer with yoga:

Beach bum yoga: Grab your shades, towel, and sunscreen, and hit the beach for some yoga. Practice cooling breath techniques like Sitali and Sheetali pranayama while catching some waves. Some suggested poses include Warrior II (Virabhadrasana II), Tree Pose (Vrikshasana), and Triangle Pose (Trikonasana).

Pool party yoga: Set up your mat by the pool and make a splash with some water yoga. Cool down with relaxing poses like Shavasana or Setu Bandhasana (Bridge Pose). You can even try aqua yoga poses in the water, such as Floating Frog Pose or Dolphin Pose.

Park ranger yoga: Take a break from the heat and head to the park for some yoga in the shade. Practice gentle poses like Uttanasana (Standing Forward Bend) or Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward-Facing Dog Pose). Some other suggested poses include Half Pigeon Pose (Ardha Kapotasana) and Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana).

Flying high yoga: Take your yoga practice to new heights with aerial yoga. Hang upside down in a hammock and feel weightless while cooling down your body. Some suggested poses include Pigeon Pose (Kapotasana) and Crow Pose (Bakasana).

Rise and shine yoga: Wake up early and start your day with a restorative yoga practice. Practice during the cooler parts of the day, like early morning or evening when the sun sets. Some suggested poses include Mountain Pose (Tadasana), Chair Pose (Utkatasana), and Seated Forward Bend (Paschimottanasana).

Yoga duet: Partner with a friend or loved one and have a blast while cooling down your body. You can try partner poses like Double Downward Dog or Double Tree Pose. Some other suggested poses include Standing Forward Bend with a partner (Paschimottanasana) and Seated Wide Legged Forward Fold (Upavistha Konasana).

Pet project yoga: Incorporate your furry friends into your yoga practice for playful and cooling fun. You can try yoga poses with your pet, like Cat and Cow Pose or Downward-Facing Dog Pose. Some other suggested poses include Cat Pose (Marjaryasana), Upward-Facing Dog Pose (Urdhva Mukha Svanasana), and Child’s Pose (Balasana).

Shady lady yoga: Find a spot in your backyard or garden with some shade and practice yoga poses like Ardha Chandrasana (Half Moon Pose) or Prasarita Padottanasana (Wide-Legged Forward Bend). You can also try restorative poses like Legs-Up-The-Wall Pose (Viparita Karani) or Child’s Pose (Balasana). Fan-tastic yoga: Beat the heat with a fan in front of your yoga mat for some cool and refreshing breezes. Some suggested poses include Tree Pose (Vrikshasana), Warrior III (Virabhadrasana III), and Revolved Triangle Pose (Parivrtta Trikonasana).

Indoor yoga party: If the summer heat is just too much to handle, take your yoga practice indoors and host a yoga party with friends. Set the mood with some relaxing music and dim lighting, and practice poses like Cat-Cow (Marjaryasana-Bitilasana), Child’s Pose (Balasana), and Sphinx Pose (Salamba Bhujangasana). You can even serve some refreshing snacks and drinks to keep everyone cool and hydrated.

In conclusion, practicing yoga during the summer months can not only help you stay physically fit, but it can also be a fun and playful way to beat the heat. Whether you prefer practicing at the beach, park, or pool, incorporating yoga into your summer routine can help you cool down and stay refreshed. From partner poses with your furry friends to trying out aerial yoga, there are plenty of ways to keep your yoga practice exciting and engaging during the summer. So grab your mat, sunscreen, and some ice cubes, and get ready to beat the heat with these fun and refreshing yoga techniques.
