Ask the Angel: Ghosts, Guides & Ghouls
Dear Reader,
October creeps in like a whisper in the dark—the month when the veil thins to a ghostly gossamer, and the space between worlds grows slippery and soft. It’s when restless spirits stir just beyond the corner of your eye, and the silence hums with secrets. That eerie tug you feel? It’s your soul waking from a deep, long sleep, stretching its ancient wings and remembering it’s never truly alone.
Your guides? They lurk in the shadows like quiet watchers, beckoning you closer to the edge where reality blurs and magic leaks through the cracks. This month, we’re stepping into the shadows to talk about what lurks there—haunting ghosts, the paralyzing grip of sleep paralysis, and candlelit séances that crack open the doors between here and “elsewhere.” If you’ve ever shivered at a whisper in the silence or felt a presence brush your skin like cold breath… you’re not losing your mind. You’re remembering how to walk between worlds. But remember: no matter how dark or mysterious the night is, you’re always wrapped in the fierce, loving protection of Source. Come. Let’s step through the dark together and play in this enchanted season of magic!
Rachel, Your Angel
Dear Rachel,
I’ve experienced sleep paralysis a few times, and it’s terrifying. I open my eyes, can’t move, and it feels like there’s a dark presence in the room. What’s happening—and is it spiritual?
Scared Stiff, Marissa, California
Dearest Marissa,
Sleep paralysis happens when your body stays in a deep sleep state while your mind begins to wake, leaving you temporarily unable to move. This can feel scary, and you might sense a presence nearby. If you do, keep your cool. Remember: you can do hard things.
Waking during the early morning hours, the witching hour can also heighten your intuition, making these experiences feel more vivid.
If it happens, and you can’t move, try gently repeating a comforting word or phrase that feels right to you—like “Jesus, remember me” or “I am made of light”—while focusing on your breath. This can help your soul gently come back into your body and ease paralysis.
You are safe, held, and deeply protected.
You May Now Rest Easily.
Rachel
Sleep Paralysis Protocol: If sleep paralysis visits you, try this before bed to create a safe, protective energy field:
- Visualize a waterfall of golden-white light washing over your body, releasing anything that’s not yours.
- Call in your angels, guides, and ancestors to surround and protect you.
- Seal your bedroom in a glowing dome of warm light, setting the intention: “Only love and light may enter here.”
- Place your hands on your heart and belly, breathe deeply, and affirm, “I am safe. I am in my body. I trust the journey of the night.”
Over time, this practice helps transform fear into peace and empowerment.

Dear Rachel,
Lately, especially this time of year, I keep catching movement or shadows out of the corner of my eye. It feels like something’s there, but when I look, nothing’s there. Am I imagining things?
Seeing Things, Natalie, Arizona
Dear Natalie,
What you’re experiencing is quite common, especially this time of year, when the veil between dimensions thins. Our peripheral vision is sensitive to subtle shifts, so those flickers and shadows are often glimpses of spirits or energy just beyond usual perception. They are always there, but this time of year we can see each other more easily. That’s right…Spirit can see you, too!
If you don’t like this feeling very much, silently say, “I call in my angels and guides to surround me with light. Only those I know may enter.” Picture yourself glowing softly with warm light. When you notice shadows, pause, breathe, and repeat silently, “I am safe. I am loved.”
However, if you do like this sensation, I would like to affirm that you’re awakening to a deeper, more magical reality. Congratulations! You can always reset or clear boundaries. Simply state aloud that any spirit not welcome must leave—and trust that your words will be honored. We, the living, have dominion over the dead. And if you feel any evil or perception of evil, love is always the antidote.
Love,
Rachel, the Angel

Dear Rachel,
I’ve been invited to a séance on Halloween night. I’m curious but also a little nervous. Are séances safe?
Scared of Ghosts, Jules, Oregon
Dearest Jules,
Jules, your curiosity is sacred, and your caution is wise. Séances, like all spiritual rituals, are serious—and they are only as safe as the intention, energy, and consciousness of those who facilitate them. When we attend séances, we can come home with attachments, so participate with caution and preparation.
A spiritual attachment is when a spirit or entity (like a ghost or demon) connects to your energy. It can make you feel tired, upset, or not like yourself. You can clear it with prayer, energy work, or by setting strong boundaries. There are many levels of attachments, from the unnoticeable to high-level.
A well-guided séance, led by someone spiritually grounded and protected, can be a beautiful, heart-opening experience that brings through messages from loved ones, ancestors, or guides. But if the space is casual, fear-based, or more about thrills than reverence, it can stir up confusion, lower energies, or energetic clutter.
Before participating, check in with yourself:
- Do you trust the person leading it?
- Is the space protected and held with intention?
- Are participants clear that only love and light are welcome?
If yes, you can attend with confidence. But remember—you don’t need a séance to connect with Spirit. You can communicate with your loved ones on the other side in the quiet of your own heart. In truth, we never need another person to connect us with our loved ones on the other side, our Guides, Angels, or God.
At the end of the séance, do things feel healthy, light, and holy? If they don’t say something. A simple prayer or intention said by anyone present will reset the energy.
Before you leave, do a sage clearing and say (out loud) that no spirit may follow you home.
Séance Protection Ritual:
Before a séance—or anytime you feel called—try this:
“I call in my highest guides, angels, and protectors of the Light. Surround me with your loving presence. Only energies of love, truth, and peace may enter my space. I am grounded, I am safe, I am protected. I release all fear and welcome only what serves my highest good.”
Visualize a radiant cocoon of white or golden light surrounding you. If discomfort arises, silently repeat this prayer or mentally set boundaries: “Only love and light here.”
Afterward, ground yourself by tapping your feet, rubbing your hands, and drinking water to return fully to your body and the present moment.
In Light,
Rachel, the Angel
Have a blessed and magical Halloween season!
