Boundary Reset: How to Reclaim Your Energy After Overgiving -We’ve all done it. You say yes when your body whispers no. You step in, pick up the slack, listen to someone’s hour-long rant, or agree to “just one more thing” when your schedule is already bursting. You walk away smiling, but inside? Your energy has been mugged.

This isn’t about being nice, generous, or supportive. It’s about the hidden tax of overgiving, which begins the moment you start leaking energy without even realizing it. And while we might think boundaries are a one-time event (“I said no, so I’m good!”), The truth is, our boundaries need maintenance. They need resets.

WE need ways to reset our energy before we crash.

Think of your energy like your phone battery. You wouldn’t expect your phone to last for days without recharging, right? Yet so many of us expect our energy to stretch endlessly without ever plugging back in. This is where a Boundary Reset comes in.

Beyond the Basics: The Sneaky Leaks:

You already know the obvious energy drains—saying yes when you want to say no, letting work emails invade your weekend, or tolerating the pushy person at family dinners. But the real danger lies in the advanced leaks that fly under the radar:

  • Micro-agreements: Saying, “Sure, I’ll take a quick look,” when “quick” actually means 30 minutes of unpaid labor.
  • Emotional over-functioning: Carrying the weight of someone else’s disappointment, mood, or reaction. As if you were going to change it for them.
  • Energetic entanglement: Having an argument in your head hours (or days) after the real conversation is over. Or before you’ve even started it!

These are the stealth drains that nibble at your energy until suddenly you’re running on fumes. And when that happens, no amount of coffee or kale smoothies is gonna bring you back. You need a reset.

The InPower™ Reset Protocol:

When I work with leaders, entrepreneurs, and go-getters, I don’t teach boundaries as walls. Walls are rigid, and rigidity cracks under pressure. Instead, I teach boundaries as energy management tools. Tools you can reset at any time, whenever you need them.

Here’s the three-step protocol:

1. Interrupt. The moment you notice your energy slipping or building into anxiety, break the pattern. Do something physical like shake out your body, do 10 squats, stomp your feet, or take one martial arts “power breath.” Find a song you can sing out loud. You’re telling your nervous system, “Stop. This is not on autopilot anymore. We’ve got this; we are taking care of ourselves now.”

2. Reclaim. We are all energy, and boundaries stop the energy leak. Silently or out loud, say, “I call my energy (or sanity or safety) back from this situation.” Picture all the little strands of energy you’ve scattered around the room on other people’s opinions, on old conversations, and on obligations you didn’t want, and imagine pulling them back into your core.

3. Reinforce. Now, put up a micro-boundary. It doesn’t have to be dramatic. Try: “Let me get back to you on this. I’ll circle back when I have space.” “I need to pause here.” Or even a quiet mental release: “Their reaction is not mine. I can care without carrying.”

This is the reset. It’s not about rehashing what went wrong, but it IS about instantly re-centering your power.

An Embodied Reset (Try This Now):

Let’s make this real.

Sit tall, close your eyes for just a moment, and take one deep breath in through your nose. Hold it for a beat. Now exhale out your mouth like you’re fogging up a mirror.

As you breathe, imagine drawing every thread of your scattered energy back into your center, like magnets returning home. Picture it filling you up in your chest, belly, legs, and even fingertips. See if you can feel your heartbeat or just feel your breath entering and exiting your body. Say quietly to yourself: “This, right here, is mine to manage.”

Notice how different you feel in just 30 seconds. That’s a Boundary Reset in action.

Why This Matters Now:

Most people think burnout happens overnight, like a light switch flipping off, but it doesn’t. Burnout is the slow leak, the constant overgiving, especially the little boundaries we let slide because we don’t want to rock the boat. All the “yeses” our body wanted to say “maybe later” or “no” to.

Resetting is how you prevent that crash, and it’s how you stay in your InPower™: leading, loving, and living with clarity instead of depletion.

And here’s the good news: the more you practice resetting, the faster you’ll recognize the leaks. The faster you plug them. Eventually, resetting becomes as automatic as brushing your teeth.

  1. Boundaries aren’t selfish. They’re self-fueling.
  2. You don’t owe anyone your exhaustion.
  3. Overgiving doesn’t prove your worth. It erodes it.
  4. Every “yes” to someone else is a “no” to something inside you. Make it worth it.
  5. Resets aren’t a weakness; they’re personal mastery.
Your Challenge This Week

Here’s my invitation: Notice just one moment this week where your energy feels drained. Instead of powering through, try the Reset Protocol. Interrupt, reclaim, reinforce. It doesn’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to get it “right.”

Just the act of noticing and resetting will start rewiring your brain and body for strength instead of depletion. Because here’s the truth: You were never designed to run on empty. You were built to thrive. And every time you reset, you rise. It’s in who you choose to be.
