
Counter Intentions: The Sneaky Saboteurs of Your Success! – Have you ever wondered why you seem stuck in a cycle of wanting something desperately but never quite achieving it? Or do you get close to your goal only to watch it slip through your fingers?
Enter counter intentions, the elusive adversaries lurking in the depths of our subconscious minds, quietly sabotaging our efforts and thwarting our desires.
So, what exactly are counter intentions?
Picture this: you’re fervently declaring, “I want a great relationship!” Yet, time and again, you find yourself entangled with individuals who are anything but long-term relationship material. Or perhaps you’re the one who’s always declaring, “I want to save money!” But somehow, at the end of every month, your bank account is as empty as a deserted highway.
It’s the classic case of wanting one thing while subconsciously desiring something entirely different! These conflicting desires create a tug-of-war within us, leaving us feeling frustrated, stuck, and wondering why we can’t seem to manifest what we truly want.
From the training and teaching I do, I can tell you what isn’t happening is as important as what results we are seeing. Our systems are protective, and if we have a fear around an intention? We get stopped! The unknown fear wins, and is only visible by the lack of results!
What about affirmations?
Many of us might use affirmations to try to blow past our blocks and I can tell you that the brain will argue if something doesn’t seem true, or the pictures in your mind make it untrue. Why?
Think about the energy behind affirming something. It’s a goal/dream/desire we want to be true which is not true yet. Something we want, but it’s based on what we don’t have YET. It’s a lot of wanting energy. “I want …” leaves us in a wanting space.
Or if you say the affirmation, “I’m a successful best-selling author/multimillionaire/in a perfect relationship. …” and your mind says, “No, you’re not!” the affirmation loses its power.
If you can argue with your affirmation, you just might. It’s what our minds do. If the affirmation is something we can prove untrue to ourselves, we might not buy into it. “I have a vacation home in Hawaii, ” can create a picture of all the ways you don’t.
How do you know if you’re grappling with a counter intention? It’s like hitting a brick wall every time you try to move closer to your goal. You feel blocked, thwarted, and inexplicably drawn away from what you truly desire.
But fear not! Identifying and overcoming counter intentions is entirely within your grasp. If you can identify what’s REALLY going on and perhaps the real reason your intentions aren’t manifesting … you can FINALLY get on the same page with yourself!
Here’s how to spot these sneaky saboteurs and reclaim control over your desires:
1. Listen to Your Inner Dialogue
Pay close attention to the whispers of your inner voice. Notice any subtle resistance or conflicting thoughts that arise when you think about your goals. Are there any underlying fears or doubts lurking beneath the surface? Acknowledging these inner dialogues is the first step toward uncovering your counter intentions.
2. Examine Your Patterns
Take a step back and analyze your recurring behaviors and habits. Do you find yourself repeatedly falling into the same patterns despite your best intentions? Recognize any discrepancies between what you say you want and how you actually behave. These patterns can offer valuable insights into the existence of counter intentions.
3. Explore Your Emotional Landscape
Emotions are powerful indicators of our inner desires and motivations. Notice any feelings of resistance, anxiety, or discomfort that arise when you contemplate pursuing your goals. These emotional cues can signal the presence of underlying counter intentions that are holding you back.
4. Get Curious About Your Resistance
Instead of viewing resistance as a roadblock, approach it with curiosity and compassion. What is your resistance trying to tell you? Is there a deeper fear or belief driving your reluctance to move forward? By exploring your resistance with an open mind, you can uncover the hidden motives behind your counter intentions.

Overcoming counter intentions requires a willingness to delve deep into your psyche and confront the aspects of yourself that may hinder your progress.
