Spirit Communication: Instant Messaging from The Afterlife
The journey through grief is a road no one wants to take, yet it’s one we’re all forced down at some point in life. Bereavement intensifies feelings of isolation and loneliness. The gloom of despair deepens with the gnawing fear that a loved one has disintegrated into nothingness. The absence of the physical presence of a loved one is excruciating. Grief shakes the very foundations of our existence, often casting the shadows of doubt even upon those with deep faith who believe in an afterlife.
You should not face grief alone. Finding an uplifting path through grief is vital for your survival. Turn to family and close friends for comfort, reach out to your faith community, and seek counseling, whether one-on-one or in a group setting.
Losing a loved one is always difficult, but losing a child is overwhelming. Mental health counselors worldwide recognize that the death of a child is the most intense, traumatic, and devastating form of grief. This often leads to complicated bereavement. This is an emotional and spiritual prison where the bereaved is condemned to an intense yearning for contact with the deceased loved one, an inability to accept the reality of the death, and feelings of helplessness. This is debilitating emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually.

This is one of the reasons I wrote the book “Never Letting Go,” which is a guide on the journey through grief. It teaches the bereaved to let go of the pain associated with the death but never let go of the love for the one who died. Accepting the reality of the death leads to understanding that a relationship with the loved one who died has transformed from one of a physical nature to one of a spiritual nature. Yet healing from grief is not a one-way street. The spiritual nature of a relationship with loved ones in spirit means they are still part of your life. They’re aware of what is happening with you. Spirits know you’re grief-stricken and will come to your rescue. That is why for many people an important therapeutic step in healing is spirit communication through a legitimate medium.
Helping Parents Heal (HPH) is an organization that incorporates mediumship as part of a cross-disciplinary approach to grief recovery. This non-profit organization is open to all parents who’ve lost children, regardless of their background or religious beliefs. HPH is about guiding parents beyond the crushing devastation of losing a child to becoming “Shining Light Parents.” This term means that a parent’s love for their child shines forever in their hearts, and acknowledgment that their child’s soul shines in eternity. Becoming a Shining Light Parent means shifting away from a state of emotional heaviness to hopefulness and greater peace of mind.
It is one of the great privileges of my life to serve as an Honorary Board Member of Helping Parents Heal. As one of the mediums in the HPH network, I conduct in-person and online spirit communication events for Shining Light Parents.
One of the HPH groups I work with is “Helping Fathers Heal.” This group is for men who’ve lost children. Proof that a relationship with someone who died has transformed from one of a physical nature to one of a spiritual nature is one of the benefits of spirit communication.
Spirits present pieces of evidence to prove they’re still part of our lives. This happened during an online spirit communication event I conducted for dozens of Shining Light Dads. When I opened myself to receive higher frequencies, several spirits immediately connected with me.
“I realized we all know people named Jimmy,” I explained, “but I’m getting Jim-Jim—and this spirit said one of the dads here has an injured finger—and it feels like the ring and pinky fingers on my right hand—and this young man’s spirit is also holding a softball, or rather a soft ball—like one you would squeeze for hand therapy—does that make sense?”

Immediately, Mike acknowledged this message. “James is my son who passed. We called him Jamie, but my father-in-law who also is in spirit was also named Jim, and he was also known as Jimmy.” This was fascinating because I was getting “Jim-Jim,” and there were two male spirits named James who were communicating.
Mike then raised his right hand toward his computer camera. His hand filled the computer screen as he explained that he has an autoimmune condition that affects the joints on his ring finger and pinky. He described how he squeezes a soft ball as part of the physical therapy for his hand condition. This was exactly what his son’s spirit described through me.
“Thank you for the validations, Mike, and please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of your son and father-in-law. Your son has another message, ‘You built a shrine for me!’ He knows it’s in a place in the house where you keep many of his things.”
Mike explained that he and his wife erected an “ofrenda” in their son’s bedroom for the Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration. Día de los Muertos is a vibrant two-day Mexican holiday celebrated on November 1–2. An ofrenda, which translates to “offering” in Spanish, is like a home altar that displays a collection of objects that belonged to the person in spirit. An ofrenda is a deeply spiritual act of remembrance—and Jamie’s spirit acknowledged he knew that his parents did this to honor his memory.
In group spirit communication settings, spirits are very respectful of the other people waiting to hear from their loved ones in spirit. Jamie was one of several spirits of children who were ready to connect with their dads here in our world. But before Jamie stepped aside for another spirit, he left his Shining Light Dad with one final piece of evidence.
“Mike, your son in spirit is now referencing ‘Chaz,’ or it could be ‘Chad’ or ‘Charlie,’ does that make sense?”
“It does, Mark—Charlie is the beagle my wife and Jamie adopted during the pandemic. As a joke, we call him Charles, usually when he’s bad, and Jamie called him Chaz. NO ONE would know this—in fact, Charlie stands in the door of our son’s room, often like he’s interacting with someone.”

Spirit communication through a legitimate medium is like instant messaging from the Afterlife. Spirit contact is about love, healing, and resolution. Love transcends physical death and our loved ones in spirit reach out to us because they love us. For those of us living in the material world, when spirits transmit messages about things no one other than the recipient would know about, this verifies they’re still part of our lives. These illuminating verifications are the beams of light that guide a grieving heart through the darkness of sorrow.
“Spirit Contact is about Love, Healing, and Resolution.”
