Between Halloween and Día de los Muertos, this time of year is ideal for a “ghost hunt.” There are three theories about ghosts and hauntings. Ghost generally means a spirit stuck on earth. I don’t buy this. In “The Afterlife Frequency,” I explain our souls are pure consciousness which is eternal electromagnetic energy which isn’t stuck on earth.
Second, a ghost is a residual energy echo of a traumatic event, meaning the ghost is no more a sentient spirit than your reflection in a mirror is you. Third, that spirits exist in dimensions parallel to ours and visit some areas on Earth more than others. Incidentally, not all spirits are human.
I was invited to speak at a Paranormal Conference at The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. Built-in 1909 near the Rocky Mountains, The Stanley is Old West elegance—and considered one of the most haunted places in America.
Built atop limestone loaded with quartz crystals, Paranormal Investigators theorize The Stanley is on a vortex—an energy whirlpool which holds and emits more electromagnetic energy than other spots on Earth. Quartz amplifies electromagnetic energy. Early radios used copper wires to run low levels of electricity through quartz crystals to amplify frequency. An old hotel that’s an energy vortex? Portal to another dimension? What better place for a ghost hunt?
Several movies have been filmed at The Stanley including Steven King’s “The Shining.” Room 217 is an epicenter of paranormal activity. When filming “Dumb and Dumber” actor Jim Carrey stayed in Room 217. According to hotel staff around 3 AM Carrey woke up screaming. He fled Room 217 vowing never to return. Publicity stunt, urban legend—or ghostly encounter?
My Business Manager Rocky and I don’t jump to conclusions about paranormal activity, but we hesitated when we saw our reservation was for room 211 a few doors from notorious room 217.
I believe investigating spiritual phenomena must employ the scientific method of objective observation without preconceived notions. However, when we checked into Room 211 our Catholic upbringing kicked in. We lit a white candle and said some prayers for protection. Why? It couldn’t hurt!
Many high-profile ghost hunters were at the conference which involved presentations during the day and “ghost hunts” at night. The Stanley Historic District has several paranormal hotspots. Rocky and I investigated each one and noticed the ghost hunters seemed to want everything to be spooky. One investigator in Room 217 used EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon) equipment which supposedly detects spirits’ “voices.”
When the EVP located a spirit voice, he asked, “Who are you?” The staticky EVP speaker emitted a response. The investigator exclaimed, “It said DEMON!” Rocky and I however heard “Stephen.”
The tunnel beneath The Stanley Hotel is loaded with quartz crystals. As a medium, I’m sensitive to frequency. Mediumistic ability is possible because of the brain’s pineal gland which contains tiny magnetite and calcite crystals. Magnetite has an electromagnetic field and calcite is a quartz crystal. In short, inside our brain is an antenna, receiver, and transmitter. An energy vortex, like The Stanley, amplifies our natural mediumistic abilities.
Including the ghost hunter/investigator, a dozen of us gathered in The Stanley’s dark subterranean tunnel. Suddenly all the investigation equipment detected a huge surge of electromagnetic energy.
Everyone stared at the equipment except Rocky. She’s seen too many horror movies where a boogieman sneaks up on a crowd of people from behind.
“Everyone! Turn around!” Rocky exclaimed.
The crowd turned and gasped! A strange green light hovered along the rock wall at the far end of the tunnel. It morphed into an undulating translucent green ribbonlike band of colors which glided along the cave wall toward us.
John, one of our colleagues hit it with a flashlight, “That’s not a projection—I work in special effects for Disney—this isn’t manmade!”
“DEMON!” the ghost hunter shouted.
Fed up with the demon obsession, I walked towards the anomaly.
“Careful Mark!” a group member cried out.
“He can’t help himself,” Rocky interjected.
As I approached the anomaly, the hair on the back of my neck stood up. Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea! Then—a familiar energy was by my side.
“Relax you’re fine, it’s nothing scary,” I heard Mom’s spirit in my mind’s ear. She was a very gifted medium, and would never miss out on something as fun as ghost hunt.
I entered the chartreuse translucence—it was intelligent, non-human—and female! I’d never seen anything like this before, but felt a similar energy in England when I encountered an “elemental,” which my British colleagues called a “fairy.”
Shifting form and looking like the inside of a huge lava lamp the elemental engulfed the ghost hunter. His equipment lit up like a Christmas Tree on steroids.
“IT’S COVERING ME!” he exclaimed.
“SHE,” I explained, “is studying you.”
“Aren’t you studying her?” I replied.
“Whoa—hadn’t thought about that!”
“She’s peaceful and means no harm—just curious why we’re so interested in her.”
With that, her light vanished. The group was ecstatic.
It’s easy to dismiss an elemental as folklore and think of a fairy as Tinkerbell. Yet, elementals have been identified worldwide for millennia. Different cultures know them as pixie, elf, leprechaun, sprite, peri, kami, djinn, menehune, and fairy. The word “fairy” is Celtic for “fair folk” meaning a race of beautiful supernatural beings.
Investigation suggests elementals are intelligent non-human spiritual entities aligned with nature, aka the elements. People fear what they don’t understand, but fearing spirits is like fearing the grass because it’s green or the sky because it’s blue. Spirits exist whether humans acknowledge them or not.
Our elemental encounter at The Stanley Hotel wasn’t evil spirits using an energy vortex as an interdimensional portal to invade earth—but rather a glimpse how very different intelligent beings can coexist peacefully. Perhaps humanity can learn something from elementals…
