The Necessary Medicine Of Fully Feeling 3 Ways To Transform Your Emotional Roots – The wind picks up as her breathing begins getting deeper. Each breath seems to pull branches of the trees into a sway, echoing the rhythm of her breath. Her heartbeat begins to race as old emotions begin to surface. Her face flushes pink, mirroring the pleasant demeanor that once held all her feelings back. The barriers are starting to break as whimpers begin to push their way out of her strangled voice. The sound of the wildlife around us grows louder; hummingbirds whiz by, and crows call out. Squirrels quarrel, jumping in leaps of faith. The chaos around us builds, mimicking her internal environment.
Keeping my voice low, she follows my lead as I drive her attention deeper and deeper into her body. “Release the walls and let go of the cage on your emotions,” I instructed her. Tears begin to roll down her face as she opens up her voice and screams out. “That was polite. Now stop restraining yourself and let it all go.” This time the release is guttural and so deep that it drops her to her knees, shaking her to the core of her being.
She breaks out in hysterical laughter as self-awareness returns. Her body, in its own intelligence, is balancing itself; what had she been so afraid of? Intense rage was finally embraced for what it was; the honest reaction of a child who had been silenced in her time of need. Her body reacted in joy; the expression soothing her had become a correction in her experience. Transforming into new roots in the Emotional Architecture for her memory. The release, acceptance, and safety of allowing that inner child to be fully received has finally been seen.
Fully embracing who we are is primal. As children, we learn how to show up in the world. It’s the beginning of our life’s assignment of remembering and becoming our fullest expression. Yet we learn to repress, suppress, or disassociate from the uncomfortable feelings and away from our true nature. Holding back your voice often feels like a pressure building in the throat. Pain is the body’s way of guiding you to the awareness of what’s sitting under the surface. Just like a negative experience, the body can be conditioned towards positive ones.
As an Alignment and Embodiment guide, I see the world of pain through a lens of emotions and body language with over 16 years of specializing in long-term chronic pain. I help people reprogram their emotional reactions to their environment, unlocking healing and putting them back into the creative center of their lives.
A large part of what I do includes walking people through safe emotional releases to deconstructing pathways to pain like this one. Creating a safe, playful environment while fostering curiosity can allow the emotion to be released, creating a heightened experience. Allowing new emotional anchors to pull up the roots of traumatic experiences and effectively replacing them with a corrective one. When the body is triggered in an old response, it’s like the software has now gotten an upgrade. What may have created a landslide of emotions before now has the opportunity to become a fit of laughter, allowing acceptance to settle in.
Our negative experiences are just as important as our positive ones; they are the keys to unlocking our evolution. Your ability to break the glass ceiling over your life is on the other side of your next bad day or difficult relationship conversation. Here are a few tips to help alchemize and transform your emotions into a powerful and “necessary medicine” in your life.
1: Listen to it before reacting
Our emotions create a mirror, a reflection of who we are projected into the world. Whether it’s a reflection of the past or fears for the future, this emotion is a message designed to help you level up.
This moment is here to signal you to wake you up. Emotions contain very important aspects of truth that have been buried and hidden away within the body. All of these create direction to help you develop a deeper sense of self and build character. So listen to what this emotion is saying and choose how you want to act vs. react.
2: Embrace it without shaming it.
Difficult experiences are temporary companions like a special guest who shows up for an episode just to move the story forward. Embracing this allows for being imperfect, human, or otherwise perfectly normal. Give yourself permission to go without judgment; after all, this moment is like fertilizer to the soil.
3: Allow it to move.
Processing emotions has a natural instinct attached to it. Think of a young child and how they naturally express their emotions through body language. This system is still intact in the adult and desires movement to self-soothe. Listen to your body as the instinct to move rises; don’t push it away. Fear requires intense shaking and the shaking creates an immense reset as the excess energy is dispelled. Anger loves to push and stomp, making ourselves big and expressing our dislike with strength.
Following these three steps will greatly improve your ability to (AIM = Alchemize, Internalise, and Materialize) the life you truly desire. In embracing our emotions and recognizing them as the keys to our evolution, we uncover the potent medicine that resides within us. Our ability to transform even the most challenging experiences into catalysts for growth.
