You Must Be Present To Win

March 18, 2024 by Corey Lyon Folsom

You Must Be Present To Win

You Must Be Present To Win – The world responds to presence or a lack of presence very acutely. Presence is showing up with your head and your heart and being engaged in whatever experience is happening. If you’re hesitant to show up in the world with all of who you are, you’re impotent in a sense.

If it were easy to push past fear then we would all be living like royalty. Fear of depth is just fear. A bigger version of you is a gift to yourself and the world. This bigger you cannot be pulled forward from the past. It can only be felt and claimed in the present time. Being present for life is its own win.

The good news is that a greater presence can be developed. Being present to your body, your feelings, your desires and the life occurring around you is a meta-skill. A meta-skill is a practiced ability that makes the rest of your life consistently better or easier. You develop presence, in part, by connecting to and demonstrating your clarity and integrity. You can use the following Soul Statement to support increased presence: “In order to step up, I remember what I am made of”.

Don’t wake up and decide which disciplines or self-care rituals to do.

A values-based decision is more powerful than a commitment, so pre-decide what you will do. What might shift if your primary relationship commitment was to your clarity and integrity? Become the person who keeps their commitment to themself. Do what you must to remove self-negotiation from the equation. Think of self-care as soul-care.

  • Do I keep micro-commitments to myself when it is “just another day”?
  • Do I stay on track when it doesn’t seem to matter or when no one is looking?
  • Am I being honest about my motivation or lack thereof?
All of us have come up short in a moment of truth.

The good news is that more moments are on the way. The answers are in your center, not your head. You can dig deep and be ready. You can choose to remain present and not run or shrink next time. The bigger you live, it lives in your depth. A Soul Statement such as: “There is a place at my center where I can tune out everything that is not me”, can help ground and center you.

In my coaching practice, I help people connect to the wisdom of the body and slow down to hear inner messages. To access your inner truth, stop listening to the noise of everything else. Balance the momentum of the world with inner stillness. A Soul Statement to encourage slowing down is: “A strong, still place is at my core”.

How often do you pause to feel your essence and inner stillness? When and how can you make space to quiet the world for a time? Time spent in meditation or a physical workout is an investment in feeling better. Be the person who keeps showing up for your inner connection to prioritize what is important.

It isn’t the mountains to climb that wear you out, it’s the pebble in your shoe.

~ Muhammad Ali

Let your body cues be reminders to make adjustments (voice, posture, etc.) Use a Soul Statement as needed to anchor into your body and to the present moment. Use a Soul Statement such as: “My body is wise and knows exactly what I need”, to sustain your momentum in a good direction.

There is more wisdom in your body than in your deepest philosophy.

~ Friedrich Nietzsche
Openhearted listening without a personal agenda is true listening.

An intimate companion deserves your presence and ease in the form of a light and open heart and an uncluttered mind. When a person comes to you with an issue and you don’t know what to say, drop in and offer more of you. Dial up your presence and just listen.

Honesty with self is power. All you will ever need is already within you. Just stop paying attention to whatever is not you! Inner stillness is an offering that you can gift to yourself. When you catch a glimpse of your personal North Star, keep re-orienting to it. Trust the wisdom that created you. Make a commitment to your clarity and truth. Focus on what’s most right about you and live as your unique and true expression. Remember, you must be present to win.
