Celebrate Your Wins!

July 1, 2023 by Dana-Maxx Pomerantz

Celebrate Your Wins!

Celebrate Your Wins! – In 2022 I had an aha moment when speaking with my life coach and mentor, Laura St John. On the video call, she took out a piece of paper and drew a pie chart on it. Then, she colored in one single triangle in the pie. She said “you have all of the other pieces in this pie, but you are only focusing on the one piece that you do not have.” Wow. If this wasn’t the truth, then I don’t know what was.

For years I was so hung up on my lack of financial success that I was completely overlooking all of the riches in my life. I was my own harshest critic and most of my achievements never felt good enough. This self-limiting belief was blocking my blessings and I knew that in order to attract more joy into my life, I needed to shift my mindset.

Laura suggested I track my wins. A win, by her definition, is something that I give and I receive. So, for example “I went to the doctor and I received good news about my test results!” It’s an action followed by a result. And, the result can be either personal or professional, small or big. By writing down my wins, I would be able to acknowledge what I do have (mindset shift: what I have is enough), empower myself so that I find more value in my day-to-day life (mindset shift: who I am is enough), and give myself a sense of purpose within my current achievements (mindset shift: why my current state is enough).

So the next day I purchased “Brag Book: Your Book of Wins” by Handbook for Today on Amazon. In full transparency, I felt super uncomfortable brainstorming the first few wins that I wanted to track. Yet I knew that if I didn’t dip my toe into the deep end, I would continue to feel like I was drowning in lack. So, I dived in.

These were the first few wins that I wrote down in 2022:
  • I went to Zumba and felt great afterwards!
  • I posted my old clothing online and sold 3 items!
  • I went to my Endocrinologist and the doctor told me that my thyroid numbers were steady!
Holy moly did I suddenly feel like I was winning!

Since I bought the brag book in 2022, I have been holding myself accountable and tracking my wins most days before bed. And I have to say, I see a positive change in my overall mindset. By congratulating myself as I go, I no longer live in a state of lack, and I am not as emotionally tied to my successes. Don’t get me wrong, I am grateful for the opportunities that come my way. However, I am now able to live in a state of contentment no matter how much money I do or do not have because I know that what I do have is enough. My value, self-worth, and talent is not determined by how much money is or is not in my bank account. It is determined by how I treat others and the light that I bring to this world.

What I hope you learn from this self-growth exercise is that you too can shift your mindset from the negative to the positive. I would almost guarantee that there is so much positivity already in your life just waiting to be seen and valued by you.

By acknowledging the small everyday wins, you will feel more abundant. Abundant in love, abundant in life, and abundant within yourself because even if certain areas are “lacking,” you will have a sense of satisfaction and you will witness more steady joy throughout your day.

Here is the truth: we live in a society that likes to label us as “egotistical” when we brag about our wins and likes to label us as “humble” when we keep our wins on the downlow. This is nonsense. Listen, I am not saying that you should walk around telling everyone how amazing you are (even though I know how amazing you are) but I do think that it is perfectly acceptable to enhance your self-confidence by being proud of all that you have overcome.

By reading this article, you are already winning. So, make sure to jot this win down in your very own brag book. And, continue to embrace your wins throughout your day. Remember, you are here my friend, and this deserves a BIG congratulations.
