Seasons of Change

October 1, 2023 by Dana-Maxx Pomerantz

Seasons of Change

Seasons of Change – Change is hard for many people. It defines a beginning and an end and it pushes us to face uncertainty. It asks us to blindly trust the process, let go of the past, and embrace what’s to come. It asks us to be 100% onboard with a “count me in” can-do attitude while being overwhelmed by to-do lists, planning, and preparing for the future. Furthermore, change does not care if we are ready, prepared, or equipped to handle what’s next.

When we are faced with change, our minds go into overdrive. Our mind tricks us into believing that the change happened suddenly (even if it’s something that we knew would happen) and so we begin to overthink, stress, and worry. We ask ourselves questions such as, “did we make the right decision?” and “will what’s to come be better than what’s left behind?”

However, change does not have to be so daunting. It does not have to scare us, catch us by surprise, or make us frantic.

When you are struggling with change, I want you to pause and think about the change of seasons.

To the human eye, it appears that a season abruptly ends and a new one begins. One day the leaves are falling off of the trees and the next day the ground is filled with snow. However, this is simply untrue.

Before the start of every season, Mother Nature presents us with evidence that the next season will soon be upon us. What’s happening around us is insight into what will be.

So, next time you are facing a change in your own life, look out your window, and take note:
  • In early winter, trees will form several new leaves. This is to let you know that spring is right around the corner.
  • In early spring, a flower or two will bloom. This is to let you know that summer is coming.
  • In early summer, trees will begin to shed its leaves. This is to let you know that fall is on its way.
  • In early fall, trees begin to go bare. This is to let you know that winter is close by.

The next season to come is already manifesting itself in the season that presently exists. The same goes for your life. What is on its way to you is already showing up in your life. It may be subtle, but it’s there.

Another tool to support you in your season of change is acknowledging what is and what’s to come.

I’m sure you’ve heard people say; “accept what is,” “accept where you are” or “you have to accept what happened if you want to move on”. Although acceptance is a big part of moving forward in life, I have personally found it challenging to accept something when it’s not what I wanted.

In order to cultivate a positive mindset where you authentically accept something as it is, your heart must accept it first.

When something doesn’t turn out as you planned or imagined, there is usually a significant amount of pain surrounding the circumstance. Your mind processes the circumstance with logic but your heart struggles to do the same.

Instead, your heart grasps tightly onto feelings of powerlessness, helplessness, and sadness. These emotions are beyond draining. Which means that there is no way that you can truly accept what was, what is, and what will be while processing such heavy feelings.

Bottom line, when your head and heart are not in sync, it makes it challenging to accept the outcome.

Here’s a tip: replace the word “accept” with “acknowledge”.

Although these words mean close to the same thing, the word Acknowledge stems from the mind whereas the word Accept stems from the heart.

By acknowledging what happened, you are fueling the part of you that is able to rationalize what occurred. You are saying “I don’t agree with what happened to me, but I see it for what it is.” Additionally, by doing this you are able to take some of your power back.

Some day you will get to a place where your head and heart are in harmony and this will allow you to be able to look back on your life and accept what happened.

For now, focus on what is in your control and lean into the power of knowing that what’s to come already exists. It will make moving forward and embracing your next chapter easier.

Show yourself some grace during your change of seasons. Trust the process knowing that the Universe is working behind the scenes to support your life’s journey. You are on your way.
