How to Find Inspiration for Your Social Media Content

August 1, 2023 by Corey Walker

How to Find Inspiration for Your Social Media Content. As a digital agency owner, one of the biggest challenges I see my small business owner clients face is coming up with fresh and engaging content for their online presence. However, the good news is that inspiration for content is all around us! In this blog post, I will share six ways that you can find inspiration for your online content to keep your social media profiles and website buzzing with activity.

Look at Your Customers

Your customers are the lifeblood of your business, and they can also be a great source of inspiration for your content. What are their pain points, challenges, and interests? What questions do they frequently ask? Use this information to create content that is relevant and helpful to them. For example, if you run a fitness center and your clients often ask you about the best pre-workout foods, you could create a blog post or social media post that provides information on this topic.

Check Out Your Competitors

Another great source of inspiration is your competitors. Look at what they are doing and see if there are any content ideas that you can borrow or improve upon. This doesn’t mean copying their content but rather using their content as a starting point for your own ideas. For example, if you see that your competitor has created a video on a certain topic, you could create a similar video but with your own unique spin or perspective.

Follow Industry Leaders and Influencers

Keeping up to date with industry leaders and influencers in your niche can be a great way to stay on top of trends and get inspiration for your own content. Follow them on social media, subscribe to their newsletters, and read their blogs to get a sense of what topics are currently popular in your industry. You could also use their content as a starting point for your own ideas, but make sure to add your own unique insights and perspectives to make it truly original.

Look to Your Own Business

Sometimes the best inspiration can come from within your own business. Look at your products and services and think about how you can create content that showcases their benefits or demonstrates how they work. You could create videos or infographics that explain the benefits of your products or create case studies that show how your services have helped your customers. You could also take a behind-the-scenes look at your business and create content that highlights your team (even if your “team” is your dog and a hamster!) or your company culture.

Tap into Current Events

Finally, current events can be a great source of inspiration for your content. Keep an eye on the news and social media trends to see what topics are currently popular or controversial. If there is a hot topic that is relevant to your business or industry, you could create content that offers your perspective on the issue. However, make sure to stay away from controversial topics that are not related to your business or that could alienate your customers.

Share a Personal Story

Perhaps my favorite is sharing a personal story or a recent trip you went on. I have been mixing in more of this content lately, showing some of the day trips I have been taking. I try to tie it back to business through the story of why I went there. This type of content can be more fun to create and gives your audience a glimpse into who you are.

In conclusion, finding inspiration for your content doesn’t have to be a difficult or time-consuming task. By looking at your customers, competitors, industry leaders, your own business, current events, and personal stories, you can find plenty of ideas for your online content.

Remember to keep your content relevant and helpful to your target audience, and always add your own unique perspective to make it your own. Most of all, have fun with it!
