This is Your Sign to Say Yes!

January 1, 2024 by Dana-Maxx Pomerantz

This is Your Sign to Say Yes! – We discussed the power of your words in my article for August. Now it’s time to discuss the power of this small but mighty word: YES.

I love the word “yes” because it signifies new beginnings. New opportunities. New friendships. And, new relationships. There is something really magnetic and uplifting about this three-letter word.

Think of the word YES as meaning;
  • Y – Your
  • E – Everyday
  • S – Sign

Your sign to do that thing that you’ve been meaning to do such as cleaning out your closet, calling that friend, going to that doctor, asking for that promotion, and so forth. The word yes = inner strength.

How often have you thought about doing something but then abandoned the idea? Whether you made this choice because you were afraid, lacked the right amount of motivation or self-worth, or didn’t think you had enough time to make it happen or you simply weren’t ready.

You’re not alone. Many people bail on something because they are so afraid of yes’s nemesis… No.

The word “no” also holds tremendous power. It is definitive. It can stir up emotions within us such as rejection, shame, and disappointment. Emotions we don’t want to feel. So, when push comes to shove, we find it easier to avoid embracing the yes’s in the world in anticipation of possibly having to face the no’s.

But here’s the reality: Good ideas only become great if we try. When we step into our power – our authenticity and our truth – and share this magic with the world.

The good news is the first step is the hardest. Once you muster up enough courage to take a leap of faith, and tell your inner critic who’s boss, you will be able to slowly embrace the next step in your life.

I know how the hard the first step is and so I want you to take a moment and imagine this: You’re 80 years old and sitting on a rocking chair on your front porch. When you look back at your life, do you have any regrets?

If the answer is yes, then you need to do the thing that you’re not doing.

As Lucille Ball once said, “I’d rather regret the things I’ve done than regret the things I haven’t done.”

I can personally attest to this motto. As you may know from reading my other articles or following me on social media, it was my lifelong dream to be a fashion designer. So, I did all the “right” things to achieve this – I went to the best fashion design school in the country, I worked for the best fashion designers, and finally my dream came true: I owned and operated my very own fashion business on 7th avenue in New York City. Everything went great until it didn’t and I had to close my business. The grief was insurmountable. I no longer knew who I was or what I was going to do with my life. I was filled with pain, shame, guilt, and disappointment.

However, unbeknownst to me, the Universe had other plans for me. It was when I was at rock bottom, that I found my purpose. And, that I found myself again. My pain led me to my purpose and for that I am eternally grateful. Oh, and did I mention that I met my husband when I had my fashion company? So, not all was lost. Today, I am generally happy with my life and I have a beautiful family to go with it.

The point in sharing a snippet of my story with you is that when I look back on my life, I don’t regret a single thing. Even the lowest of lows. I’ve said yes to things that have turned out better than I imagined and I’ve said yes to things that rocked me to my core. Either way, I learned a lot from my past. Today, I only look back to see how far I’ve come. And boy-oh-boy have I come far. My younger self is really proud of all of the yes’s I’ve said to life.

My hope for you is that you do the same. If something isn’t ignited a feeling of excitement, curiosity, and joy in you then it’s time to shift your focus and change something.

This year I want you to say a thoughtful YES to things – the relationship that you know can be good for you, the job that feels right, the friendship that puts a smile on your face, or the decision to better yourself in some way. Whatever happens from saying “yes,” know that things will turn out okay. You will be okay. And life will happily say “yes” right back.

Now can I get a hear a big YES from you?! You took the first step and said yes to reading this article. I bet you didn’t even realize this. Look at you, my friend. Yes!
