Confessions Of A Practitioner-I have a few confessions I want to make…
There is a list of topics that are considered to be too taboo to talk about when you are sitting in the seat of the helper.
And, the longer I sit in that seat, the more clear it becomes that this off-limits list is like best-kept secrets…
As the saying goes, secrets make you sick…
I imagine if most health and wellness professionals lifted the veil, we would all see that sitting in the seat of the helper while keeping a list of secrets does, in fact, make you sick.
Thus, I want to share of few of those unspoken sentiments in the name of liberation…
When you know what I know, we can all move forward together with clarity and a concise understanding of the help I am actually able to give and the role you play in making that help come to life in the way with which it serves you…
1. Testing is a way of asking your body a question.
The results of said tests are the body’s response to said questions.
The same question can be asked again in 3 months, and a different response is given…
What you need NOW will change.
What you need in the future SHOULDN’T look entirely the same.
Testing isn’t a one-and-done.
2. Supplements… they’re great AND entirely over and inappropriately used.. often.
If your foundation is cracked and you itching to go back to that…
- nightly glass of wine
- weekends binging beer
- pounding processed food
- late nights and early mornings
- excessive and high-intensity exercise
No supplement is going to offset the impacts of that.
Food, alcohol, and exercise addiction is as real as this culture’s complacency with it.
3. Physiology + psychology go hand in hand
Your mental health is going to directly impact your physical progress.
If you aren’t tending to the weeds + planting seeds in the garden of the mind, your physical body is going to reflect this.
4. You can have the BEST team on hand
If you don’t follow things as they’ve been laid out for you OR fail to communicate your needs
There’s a (more than) good chance that progress isn’t going to look or feel the way you imagined it would.
Notice, I didn’t say expected. We drop expectations at the door…the body’s in the driver’s seat.
5. You may have to repeat protocols
I repeat you may have to repeat, redo, and revisit protocols. Nothing is guaranteed. Again, the body is a dynamic + LAYERED ecosystem
6. Supplements can be as detrimental as medication if over or misused
- Knowing what you need
- Knowing how much of something you need
- Knowing the best time to take it + what with (cofactors are key) …is imperative to actually support your ecosystem
7. You may be completely capable of doing all things on your own…
And I promise you…there will be a point, if not multiple, where you wish you had at least 1 additional set of eyes + ears that are objectively supporting you + your process.
The more support, the better. The best investment you can ever make is an investment in yourself + your well-being.
8. Your process is going to take longer than you’d like
- Think three months for every year of dysfunction. For most of us, this looks like the rest of our life.
- There will be times when your needs will be more intense + require a greater degree of support.
- There will also be times when day-to-day foundational support is all that’s required.
9. Start SMALL
Those freebies you love to sign up for…
They likely aren’t going to solve all the physical symptoms bubbling to the surface.
Those are years (7-10) in the making…
However, if you can’t keep with + stick to simple habits (this is your foundation), NO amount of fancy is going to work…
At least not long term
10. You’ve got to be ready…
Let’s be honest; you’ve got to know that it’s going to be a bit scary + that action is required in spite of the scare.
You’ve got to understand OR be open to learning about why a dynamic + ever-changing ecosystem needs dynamic + ever-changing support… and be ok with it.
And you’ve got to be aware that you are going to have moments of frustration with the process + in the frustration, find appreciation for your own commitment + dedication to doing the damn thing with your body.
None of the work I get to support people with is fast, cheap, or easy.
It doesn’t fit into the culture of instant gratification. And that, friends.. is the gift… That is the process of walking yourself home ONE savory step at a time.
The body is the great reminder + equalizer…
Big love, T
