Some of the greatest benefits that come from the exposure podcasts have require you to have your own podcast. However, you can still greatly increase your company’s exposure by being a guest on someone else’s podcast. Get ready to find out just how much podcasting can improve your business.
Are You Lost In The Sea?
It is a digital world. With that there are some clear benefits to running your business online. Rent space is next to nothing, little to no upkeep, and so much more. But where there are highs there are always lows. One of the biggest issues companies are faced with when they operate online is visibility. The internet is saturated with companies and people constantly selling their products. With all of that background noise it can be difficult to get your companies voice and message to your audience. Now, there are definitely multiple things you can do that will help increase your company’s visibility. Podcasting has become one of the newest trends in business.
Be A Big Shark, In A Little Pond
Podcasts have much smaller competition margins. There are well over 500 million blogs out there whereas with podcasts there are only about 500,000. More importantly, there is an audience that you could use to your advantage. In the US, 51% of the population listens to at least one podcast. Of this 51%, 56% of this audience is made up of men. There are several businesses that struggle to meet a male audience. In the end, they tend to switch gears and target women. Women tend to do the bulk of the purchasing in the household which makes them the target of most businesses.
Expand Your Reach
It is more than just creating an opportunity to reach your target demographic. The key to making any business a success, is to create a connection to your clients. To make a connection to clients you need to establish trust and generate a positive feeling. Another advantage that comes from doing a podcast is the fact that audiences say they feel more connected to the individual or company. It turns out that listening to someone speak actually creates a stronger emotional engagement versus reading words. When audiences hear the passion in your voice it tends to inspire that same emotion within them.
Tell Me Everything
We all know time is money and podcasting is a great way to streamline your timeframe. Instead of writing multiple blog posts per-week you can do one 30 minute podcast episode. The average blog post can be anywhere between 1000-2000 words, which dependent on the individual could take a while to create. While the average 30-minute podcast contains around 5000 spoken words, and it is much easier to talk about something you are passionate about as opposed to writing about it. As an added bonus if you find you don’t feel like talking you can always feature a guest speaker! Having a guest speaker helps to spread your influence even further by joining your followers. It also helps to keep things fresh.
Take Me Anywhere
One of the biggest draws of podcasting for consumers is the fact that it is portable and convenient. While the largest percentage of listeners do so at home 78% the ability to do it anywhere is too appealing. Most listeners prefer podcasts due to the fact that they can have it on in the background while they go about their daily routines. By removing the obstacle of time-consuming reading of content you are dramatically increasing the likelihood that your audience will access the information. Not only does listening to content, increases the likelihood that they will access the content, studies, have shown that people retain information more when they listen to information as opposed to reading it.
Why Doesn’t Everyone Have a Podcast?
By now I am sure you are asking yourself why more businesses are not already taking advantage of podcasting. One of the main reasons why some businesses don’t use podcasting is because it is an ongoing commitment. To produce a valuable podcast you need to post regularly, at least once a week. It can be expensive to start and isn’t always easy, there is a lot of editing that has to happen. More importantly, your podcast will not be an overnight success. Which means you will have to do a lot of work upfront and wait for it to pay off. Creating your own podcast may not be in the cards for your business, however, you can still take advantage of this platform for your business.
Join Forces
I absolutely love collaboration! It is by far, one of the smartest things I have ever done for my business. Before you look into the logistics of creating your own podcast I would highly suggest reaching out to current podcasts within your field. Not only does it expand your personal reach it also shows you how to run yours in the future. Most, if not all, podcasts run a marketing campaign with their podcasts. This helps to build up interest and they will usually ask you to share the ads with your followers. Not only does it show your experience, knowledge, and credibility as an expert in the field it also helps them grow their following. Being a guest costs you nothing but time and can have a high payoff.
We Are Better Together
Even if you choose to create your own podcast in the future make sure you are still collaborating with other experts by being a guest or having them be your guests. I cannot stress enough how much of an impact collaborating can have on the success of your business. I would suggest that you act as a guest on as many podcasts as possible prior to creating your own. It is also a great idea to hire someone to edit your content and someone who has created a podcast in the past. There are quite a few steps that make a podcast stand out and you are going to want to take advantage of all the tips and tricks you can get.
